There's no such thing as cheap any more. Since the feds changed the way they do excise taxes, the price of shafts and components has skyrocketed. The least costly online store I know of is Kustom King. If that's still too expensive, you probably oughta try your luck on ebay.

Of course, there's still the old fashioned way... Go cutshoots orrivercanein the woods and work them down yourself to make your own shafts. Kill a couple of turkeys and make your own feather fletches. Put self nocks in the arrows instead of buying plastic ones. Make broadheads from about any steel that's 1/16" or so thick, cut a slot in the shaft and fit them. Make small game blunts from .357 cartridge cases. Then all you'd have to buy would be field points. If you're really handy with a hammer and anvil, you can even make those from sheet steel or brass.

I like Joe and Becky Stark at Lone Wolf, but Art is right--no such thing as "cheap". If you are talking about wood arrows, I know of a cheap finish that is the best I've ever used, and you can get everything you need for it at Wal-Mart--including the cap and cresting paints. With feathers, if you aren't real picky about colors give me a holler and I cangive you some info.Same with nocks. The cheapest route is the one Art mentioned--cheap if you don't count your time anyway.

Let's keep this going for a bit.

I've been hunting the internet for fletching. (I have 6 more aluminums to fletch up)

But!!! this should probably go on a new post, but oh well.

Here's the deal. I don't mind building up arrows. Meaning I can fletch, insert, glue, go! However, I don't want to invest the time to build up my own wood arrows or anything like that. Archery is my second hobby, so I just want to pretty much step out the door and shoot.
Arthur and I discussed it a bit, but it was just enough to get me thinking (always dangerous).
I'm not going with carbon, just to darn expensive.
Aluminum is cheaper, but the bloody things are noisey.
I like the idea of wood, so if I buy some pre-made hand spined arrows will I have to do much work with them? Can I just shoot them?
Is aluminum best for my time constraints and lack of intrest in the tedious sounding woodies?

Thanks for the info, I did find two places that are very reasonable on arrows and arrow components, you might want to check them out.

Chris, when it comes to just being plain simple and not much hassle, then aluminum is best choice. There are things you can do with aluminum to quiet them down. Like stuffing them with that lightweight styrofoam they use for making flower arrangements. Itadds weight to the arrow, but it definitely does make 'em a lot quieter.

One guy I know tried squirting that foam insulation into his arrows, but the stuff expanded so much it split his arrows. [:-]I don't much recommend doing that.

You can order wood arrows pre made, cut to length with points installed and just shoot them. But it'd save money in the long run to buyone of those inexpensive plastic pencil sharpener-typetapering tools, cut the arrows to length, taper them and install the points yourself.

You might want to stay away from www.fsdiscountarchery.com

I just got done reading through 80+ complaints against them and there ways of doing business over on archerytalk.com

They usually charge out the wazoo in shipping charges to make up for there low prices on archery equipment.

Just a word of warning, I don't like to see anyone potentially getting screwed.

I used F/S in the past, and had good luck for a while, then got ripped off in a big way and haven't been back. That was several years ago--maybe things have changed since then, but I've also seen a lot of complaints.

Thanks for the warning about fs. I think I am going to go with the Easton Legacy shafts, they run about $33 a dozen at 3 rivers archery.

Think I'm going to build up some wood arrows. I have an order all ready in my cart with 3rivers, but I haven't checked out yet. It's not cheap, but I'd have some of the materials I needed. They have dipped/crested arrows, that basically cost about the same as aluminum. Just pick up a taper tool and some field points and I'm good to go. Next order could be the tubes, and coatings I need and raw shafts..... Still thinking about it
