Have been away for awhile as a poster here...I lurk now and again, but just needed to share the excitement without giving up my dirty little secret on the "other" trad boards (shootin buddies visit too often)

The secret weapon is on the way, my fourth Chek-Mate. A 62" Hunter 2. It's "only" a 51 pounder, but at my 29" draw I don't expect it'll be "slow".
For the past 3 seasons I have been enjoying the hybrid longbows. Shot a Crusader for a season, a Featherhorn the next and now a Dwyer Defiant for the last 9 months or so. All great bows and great fun...but, I'm finding I shoot the recurves better....so what's a guy to do ? That's right, order a new bow !

I'm dropping 6 pounds off the draw to help me work on my form. Have been strugglingthrough target panic and have finally been making some progress this season thanks to some help from some fellow cyber traditionalists and many hours shooting the bag in the garage. Great workout, good for the soul too

Anyway, the plan is that the bow gets here Thur or Friday, Friday night I grab an armload of old arrows and tune it up at the range. Silencers and quiver loaded...thinking some 30.5" 2018's or my 2020's with 145's might work nice. If it's as wild as my Raven, it may want a 2117....we'll see.
then Sunday morning we head out for a 3D and I score justa few morepoints than everyone else in the groupbut not enough to embarrass anyone......that's the plan anyway. LOL

The goal is to work past my working weight of 57-58 pounds andorder up some 60-62 pound limbs for next season.

What would really be cool is if LBR could get me some 64-66" Crusader limbs to bolt on the H2 riser.

You know, even though Chek-Mate has more styles than any other company I know of, one thing they don't offer is a take-down that will accept recurve or longbow limbs. There might be one in the future, but I doubt it will be soon. Marc has several other designs stirring around in his fuzzy head, and doesn't even have time to start building those! I figure the next one out will be a one-piece Hunter II--but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it.

LBR - As youmay remember my posting a couple years ago, I would LOVE a single piece hunter II !This is my first hunter 2 and first take down bow.....I really didn't want a take down, but everything else about this bow fits the bill.I bought this one sight unseen from the dealer here in MN (Greg at G&M....good guy like Chad) and was only slightly dissappointed with the looks.(flaresdidn't lay uplike I had seen online) I plan on dressing it up a little, but that's not what I bought this bow for anyway; IT IS A SHOOTER ! Got er tuned in just about perfect. Need to maybe bump the nock up a hair or change my 4 fletch just a bit. Other than that it spits a 30"2020 w/145 very VERYnicely. Been shooting it around 8.5" brace height, and just had to bump out the side plate a bit for the 5/16 arrows. I''m pretty excited about this bow and it's impressive cast for only a 51 pounder.

To give you an idea of what I'm excited about; I've been shooting hybrid longbows for the past 3 season. My effective/hunting range was basically 12-15 yards. I wanted to improve on that and just wasn't getting there with the longbows. I'm talking about 3" groups type of shooting....well, last night after tuning it in better and getting rid of that arrow wiggle,my effective range immediately jumped up to 20-25 yards. Feeling perfectly confident shooting at longer ranges too, although I know I won't be grouping arrows, I know I'll be on thetarget and killing lots of foam.

I think I need some custom strings made for it too....does anyone around here know a guy who can twist up a good string ??? LOL - You have any Dyna 02 in orange ?

Wow--sounds like you are just a natural recurve shooter. I really don't know why some folks do much better with one or the other, while others can swap around and shoot both about the same--but I do believe it's a fact.

I don't have any Dyneema '02--sorry. BCY came up with that primarily for endless loop strings, and I don't make endless loops. It's basically the same material as Dyna '97, which I do have--and I do have orange.

Thanks for the welcome back! Yes, I think maybe too many years of high wrist shooting with a compundhas confounded my longbow shooting. I'm not giving up on them just yet, as I find them to be a lot of fun to shoot and look at.Like you, I prefer the wood arrows too.
I just needed a more effective hunting tool for now and a recurve with aluminums suits me just fine. Next spring the longbow and woodies will be back in action looking to harvest a nice bear in the fall. I'll bring it withon my hunting trips this year and if I feel like a walk with the longbow, than thats what I'll do. It's all fun.
