So Michigans youth hunt took place this weekend, and I figured it would be a great time to get my brother involved in this great sport/lifestyle.
Saturday morning we got into the woods about 45 min. before 1st light. The weather was horrible. Heat and wind were huge factors. We had to battle hornets and stink bugs all day. Now I have to admit I'm not the kind of person that can sit still very long but I realize that when hunting it is a must, my brother on the other hand has some work to do in this area. Well after about three hours with no action we had to take a break. We got back into the woods around 3:30 and saw nothing the rest of the afternoon, except 9 turkeys including a good sized tom(too bad they are out of season.
Sunday morning we woke up early, I figured if we went to town and got some breakfeast before heading into the woods we might sit longer(afterall we had zero chance of getting anything from the living room)so we headed to mickey d's and got some chow, and to the woods we headed! When I got out of the truck it just felt right! It felt like it would be the day. I pulled the traditions pursuit PRO out of the case and haded it to my brother and off to our blind we went. Tyler alomost sliped off the wooden ladder on his way up but we made it up quietly. We dropped all the windows early before light.
around 8:00 he was already getting antsy, I told him we just had to be patient and the deer WILL come! Every 5 min he asked me what time it was and I always told him it was about 30 minitues earlier than it really was to hopefully to sike him into staying just a little longer.
Well at about 9:00 we had a buck come in and tyler got the gun ready. It was a good 35 yd shot wich I knew would be no problem. Tyler got him in the scope but just before the buck stepped behind a tree. tyler Got sort of upset but I showed him were the buck would step back out when all of the sudden another buk walked in. I couldent see the deer from my seat but tyler could and before I could compare the two deer, he shot! I finally got to see the deer when it fell about 5yrds from were he shot it.
Anyways I think he is gonna be a hunter for life we just gotta work on the sitting still part.
Here is his dandy little four point!
