Sounds great so far, guys!
BUT-
I'm not going to give out my "design secrets" again, I have done this in the past and gotten heavily burned. I lost a great cam design over 10 years ago because I spoke in confidence to the wrong person.BIG bucks lost. As far as I know they still utilize the original concept today, after denying that I had anything to do with it even tho I had original sketchings dated prior to their release. (Once a pat. pending is on it, you're all done) I also have posted thoughts about new designs I felt would take off, but will not do it anymore. Bottom line---DON'T BE A CHUMP! Your ideas could possibly make you a ton of money, especially if they are unique. Manufacturers look for this kind of stuff and prey on it.
I've many times thought about designing and building my own equipment, and have had others prod me to do so, but at this point in the game I don't know..... it would be cool to watch your own design rise to the top of the heap tho, wouldn't it? <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Of course I'd have to completely learn CAD and CNC programming..... Your idea is only really your own if you hold a valid patent on it and have the knowledge, or the lawyers, to keep others from infringing upon your rights.
I feel for you, Pinwheel. I would bet that a lot of other aspiring engineers and designers had many commercially successful product designs "liberated" from them by others. And sometimes even your own ideas don`t belong to you. When I was on paid staff doing research during graduate school, part of the employment agreement stipulated that ALL intellectual property that I generated was to be owned by the university.
The company owns you if you don`t own the company...

The way I see it, is I wanna be a hunting outfitter, I don't care about making bows, someone else can have that job, I see alot of good little companies that I hope don't expand past what they are like Merlin, they are quiet and unassuming but make great bows. I wanna have a good little outfitting business myself to share with a future wife and kids. Have a good family raised outside the rigours of the city, I figure thats a good goal.
