Arrow speed question
Silly question and one that I know if I could find my physics book from college I could answer myself but it is lost in the abyss of the basement, or it was trashed years ago. Is there a formula to determine down range speed of an arrow. The IBO speeds and chrono's 5 yards down range are great but I want to know what speed that arrow is traveling at when it hits the target. Is there a chart somewhere that has information like this. I know this is a function of momentum instead of KE and will therefore have a lot to do with shaft diameter and arrow mass. Just curious.

Like bigcountry already mentioned there is such a program--excellent program I may add, that will give you all you're looking for.
You may get a chance at the program DEMO--but by registering and paying an annual fee of $35, I think, you will get all and more of what you're looking for.
However, if you choose to list the name and model of your bow, the DW, the type of arrow you're shooting, the length of the arrow and the weight of the braodhead I'll provide some of the information you're looking for.

pinwheelsoftware will give you just that. It is similar to archers advantage. You can get a free 10 day trial to see if you like it. It also makes sight pin templates and sight tape. I can plug in the chrono reading and the details on the bow and also the arrow and the program will run a template for me to set sight pins. I get my 20 yard pin dead on and set the rest of the pins from the template. They always turn out right on the money. Check it out. It is a great program.

this is from a site I found on the web that 300 feet per sec = 204mile per hour,285 is 194 mile per hour and 265 is 181 mile per hour.

There's a free ballistics program on Steve Jackson's site. It might not have as many bells and whistles as the others, but it'll give you the info you're asking about.
