I know this has probably been address 1000 times but Im confused!!!!!
Im shooting a Bowtech 101, 29 inch draw, at 56 lbs of draw weight. my arrows are gold tip camos 5575 at 28" with a 75 gr tip. my question (s) are
1-what kind of speed should I get out of this set up?
2-what kind of distance ( in yards) should i get with one pin?
3-will I get enought KE for big game hunting?
I'v been told that I should go to the standard Carbon Express Max 250 to get the lightest arrow weight for more speed. I believe that my goldtips are weighed in at 365gr.
help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On my hunting set up I dont agree with the lighter arrows to get more speed, I do believe you ahould be getting plenty of ke for hunting with your set up. I have no clue what your bow is shooting (you need to shoot it through a chrono) you can do this at most shops. Once you know this have them weigh your arrows (complete). With this info you can figure your ke.....ke= Velocity X Velocity X Weight Divided by 450240.
(speed)(speed)(arrow)
You will need on average they 45 ft lbs of ke to harvest any north american big game, However i suggest more if you are using mechanicals 60 ft lbs.
If you have a set up you are going to be shooting 3d or some other type of competition you will want light shafts and more speed for better trajectory (flatter shooting) lesser pin gaps....Just my .02

Speed and large game maynot be good idea...off angle shot and large bone(say a rib on elk) with fast and lite could be a glancing blow into non-vital area.Heavy and 20-30 fps slower could drive through bone and tissue to desired area! 22-250 is fast but looses gas @ 350 yards...300 mag slow start put still KE at 350 yards...same concept on shorter scale with archery isn't it?

You should be shooting that arrow about 285 -290 fps.
If I were you I would go to a heavier tip. Your FOC percentage is between6 & 7% which is very low. By going with a 100 grain tip you should bearound 10%FOC and speed wise somewhere in the low to mid 280's. this would be a much much better arrow set up IMO.

Don't get caught up in the speed numbers. Most Bows today generate plenty of speed. Keep the important properties of your arrows in mind when looking for that ultimate setup. Spine, overall weight, and FOC. I prefer an FOC of at least 12% to 15%, more is even better.
The 101 is an Awesome bow!! Enjoy!!

dang lol! i never knew how to figure my ke till just now. with my 500 gr fmj at 275 fps i have 83.98 lbs of ke. that is insane. but with my 3d setup which is 400gr at 290 its 74. im definately shooting with the fmj for hunting season lol!
