I'm new to archery hunting and new some suggestions on what bow to purchase. Also there is a lot of extra equipment in archery hunting. What is really needed and what it not?
Thanks in advice for your suggestions.

what is needed: bow, arrow, broadhead.
Everythign else is extra, however, I would strongly suggest: arrow rest and sight
then next: release, peep sight, stabilizer
then, go have fun!

Prepare to be addicted...anything you hunt whitetail, muleys, antelope, bear, etc. will work great for elk. Basically, a bow, arrows, sight, rest, quiver, good sharp broadheads and you're good to go. My suggestion is to get the Primos Big Bull series and study up. Here's my bull from '04:

Nice 6x6 bull CG!. I have harvested 2 bulls thus far. A spike and a nice 5x5 and I'm
hooked. Ive hunted Idaho and Colorado and love hunting in both states. Once you
get it in your blood you will understand. Now, if I can just get drawn for my tag this
year I will be happy.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, very nice elk. That is the info that I wanted. Do you suggest any brand of bow? I was able to take a elk with my 44 Magnum in 2002. That was quite a rush. I bet shooting a elk with a bow would be incredible. My cousin bought a Fred Bear bow a few months ago and wants me to get one also. I'm just doing some reasearch before I buy one.

Shoot a bunch of different brands and styles. From top end stuff to lower end stuff. There's something for everyones style and taste. I however like the taste of Mathews. Good luck shopping.

Igotta give elk hunting a try some day.Need some money first though
