The 3-d season is over for me for this year but I'm already thinking of some changes for next year. One of the changes is trying a clearifier on my peep. The reason for this is my eyes are getting worse. I'm hitting the mid fifties and my close-up vision is deteriorating. When I'm at full draw my pins are a blur. I went to a .019 pin to help make the blur smaller. It worked for a couple years but I'd like to see if I have any other options. I went to a local shop and saw a peep that will except 3 different size clearifiers but none of them seem to clear-up the pins. Any suggestions? Jerry

Jerry, when I shoot my scope in 3D, I use the Super Peep with a 1X lens screw insert into the peep...what that does is clearifies the scene that the 3X lens in the scope blurs slightly....in other words, the scope blurs the image/target and the clearifier peep clears up that image/target....
I haven't tried it without the scope on my pin setup...I usually just screw out the peep insert and use the peep housing as my peep...makes a nice sight picture with a big hole and the pin setup I use....I can't imagine that it would clear up the pins for me but I don't have a problem seeing them....vision still okay at 37....but I would imagine that it would blurr the target...I'll have to try it tonight and check back in....

Thanks Rob. I know I'm not alone in this boat. Like I'm the only guy who's farsighted? I just have to find the right compination of peep and or peep lense. The easy fix would be contacts put I'm not sure what effect it would have on my target clarity. I thought a clearifier with a 2 power lense might give me enough magnification to bring my pins in focus.
Where are all you 4 eyed shooters??.

Jerry/Pa,I've got the same problem and I tried the clarifiers and such.It just was'nt working for me.I wear glasses for reading, but I just could'nt shoot my bow with them on,the bridge kept getting in the way. What I did is ordered another pair of glasses that don't have that bridge problem. It took some getting used to,but now I'm a four eyed shooter...Bob

Jerry: I'm not farsighted, but at 52, with corrective lenses for distance, my pins are blurry or have a "starburst" around them if they are much closer than 3 ft. That said, one of my biggest shooting problems is concentrating too much on my pins. If I concentrate on the target, and let the pins blur and "wander" as they will (long as it isn't too much) I can shoot as well as I ever could. When I am shooting badly, and flyers are happening too often, I usually am thinking about and focusing on the pins too much. I know that's not what you were looking for, but that has helped me. I also do not use a peep sight anymore.
I did see an ad for a device called a "verifier" in Lancaster Archery's catalog. It showed pics of a deer with blurry pins, and another where both were sharp. I'm not sure how the lens in the peep could do what it says it does (both things in focus at the same time), but they had them if you are interested. The price is a little salty though.
I can see how a clarifier could clear up a scope image that is relatively close, since the scope alters the apparent distance of the target anyway. Not sure how a lens in the peep could make the pins (30 something " away) and the target (20-40 yards away) in focus at the same time, at least to my eyes, it seems impossible.

For my bi-focal eyes, I finally went with a 4X extreme scope with .040 up pin in a yellow color and no clarifier, works great. For hunting I went with an Impact archery Trio sight, really bright pins and no starburst or halo effect with it.

Well I spent some time today researching and thinking about my options. What won't work for me is shooting with glasses. I tried and I have the same problem as Trestand with the frame interferiing with my vision. Contactts won't work for me being farsighted. What I came up with was three choises. 1) Try the verifier system. Pricey as it seems if it does the trick it'll be worth it.
2) Add a 4 or 6 power lense to my pins for target/3-d. That would enlarge the 10 ring down range so the starburst I see won't cover over it. (The pin blur doesn't effect my 20 +30 yd. shot so hunting is not effected) I already shoot in a senior class any way and half the guys I shoot against use scopes/lense already.
3) Change completely over to a scope/lense and shoot an open ring scope.
What ever the end result will be one thing I know. I'll be shooting for a long time to come regardless of my scores. What a great sport we participate in regardless of age,sex and ability. Jerry

Just another PA farsighted person that don't know the answer to your question. Sure wish I did. When I'm looking at my pins, most of the time I see two dots or they are oblonged. I also agree with Jo PA
Sure wished there was a remedy for this situation!
