Default dominant eye(how can you tell)?

ok lets clear the air on the dominate eye question for those who need to know how to tell before they get into archery.i know for a fact there are alot of us out there that are left eye dominate and shoot right handed--not by chice but because we were led to believe we were.
how do you or have you been told how to find your dominant eye? i went to the eye doctor a few years back and he told me i was eft eye dominate and i asked him are you sure because i was told years ago i was right eye dominate when i first started to shoot archery. i was really kind of stuned at first. but i shoot with both eyes open and a hunters peep and do very well this way now. better than with just one eye open like i used to shoot. it takes a while to train yourself to do this but it is well worth the effort if you shoot right handed and are left eye dominate. now thats what i have seemed to figure out---
to help me do this a buddy of mine who is a good friend to darrell pace told me to were a hat and just take a paper clip and a small advertisement card for instance and put it on the left brim of my hat and bend it down to were when i open my right eye it does not interfere with looking at the spot i am shooting for. so i just open and close my left eye to make sure it does cover my left eye line of sight only. this way i was able to train myself to shoot better with both eyes open over a period of time. even with both eyes open and your line of vision with the left out not being able to focus on the target it still seems you can see everything anyway. its a pain in the but sometimes but all i did was make sure i took my hat with me to shoot every time and i am glad i did.
sure there was a few wise cracks occasionally by those who new nothing about what i was trying to accomplish or the simple reason as to why.i still learn today a few simple tricks from some of those who have been shooting for years and i find it fasinating and can hopefully pass it on to someone else who wants and desires to become a better archer like so many on this board have taught each other.
lets here how you guys were told to determine the dominate eye?

Hold both arms at length above your line of sight........make a small hole with both hands clasped together.
Now focus on an object in the distance......lower your hands (Still at arms length) and center that object in the hole you created with your hands. Close and open your right eye, and then your left eye. Whichever eye allows you to see the object in the hole is your dominant eye.

I'm left eye dominant and shoot right handed, it has never been a problem for me shooting long guns or bows, and I shoot a bow with both eyes open.
Where I really notice it is shooting a handgun with open sights........I naturally want to line the rear sight up with my left eye. I can shoot pretty well either way, but the left eye is definitely wrong.
I can shoot fine right eye with a handgun at the range because I am thinking about it, but I'm 100% sure that in a combat/defensive position where I had to shoot fast and/or instinctive that I would line up my left eye.

Or you just point your finger at something with both eyes open then close one at a time. The one that you see your finger pointing at the object is your dominate eye.

When I try to do these tests, I see either double hands or double objects. Why is that? I know I am left eyed because when I look down my peep my left eye tries to look. I closed my left for awhile, and then tried to open it. It was tough at first but know I have trained myself. I can shoot much more accuratly now.

like i said earlier my eye doctoc said i was left eye dominate---for years i thought i was right eye dominate by doing the same kind of test with your finger tip and making a small hole with both hands together and closing each eye. when i still do that my right eye stays looking at the object as it did along time ago as thought as am still showing right eye dominance.
after i had went to the doctor i told my archery shop owner what the doctor had said and he told me to do it this way. still clasp your hand together but with a smaller hole and lay your arms down in front of you--then look at a object you want to birng your arms up to look at through the hole.with your hands still down bring them up real quick to that object and you will see which eye dominates the other by one trying to focus on the object better than the other one.now when ever i do it that way my left eye wants to take over or just just plain wants to dominate my right eye even looking with both eyes at the object.remember to raise your arms quick while looking at the object. see if you guys see the difference this way or have a buddy stand out in front of you at a distance to see which eye you are looking at through the hole with more of a dominance
this is the only way by my vision doctor saying i am left eye dominate that i can agree with--because the other ways like i used to think were right still shows a right eye dominance.
i have shot to many years to change---and i cant complain about how i shoot . i mean if i went to my dominate side left handed i may be able to steady the bow a little better and maybe shoot better but its not worth it to me now.but for someone starting out it could benifit them in the long run.

It is simple, tell the person to make a circle with one hand (pointer finger to thumb). ask them to put it up to there eye while looking at an object on the other side of the room. The hand will go to one of the eyes. If it doesent they are looking at there hand not through the hole.

My daughter is right handed but left eye dominant. I bought her a left handed bow and are training her muscles not her instinct.

For a child do as above, have the child clasp both hands together forming a hole and have him or her look at your nose. You will be looking at the childs dominate eye.
