Anyone who says that penetration of a mechanical broadhead is equal to a fixed blade is wrong.
If your saying there's no mechanicals that are equal to fixed blades when it comes to penetration , then your wrong!

If you tune your bow properly fixed blades fly the same as field points, or mechanicals.
Not always! And it also depends on which fixed blades just as it depends on which mechanicals you use when comparing penetration.

Why use mechanical broadheads?
The biggest reason? Because I can!!! Ever hear of wind planing?

If the bow is properly tuned they fly no better and penetrate less then fixed blades
Again...your not entirely correct! A well tuned bow is a must for everyone , but there are instances (longer yardages on windy days) where even a well tuned bow will not shoot fixed heads (some , not all) the same as field points. Mechs do! Pertaining to penetration , 10 years ago I wouldn't be disagreeing with you. Some of the new mech heads penetrate just as good and some better than fixed heads.

The reason im against them is simple most people who use them, use them so they don't have to spend time they are lazy.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you there! I see too many folks using them for the wrong reasons.

Welcome to the boards!

Many of the shooters here are avid 3-D shooters who keep their equipment perfectly tuned and have the ability to shoot it very well but still they choose to shoot expandable broadheads due to their accuracy at high speeds and wide cut to promote quick kills with the occasional less than perfect shot that we will all eventually have. With many of todays setups pushing near 80 ft lbs of kinetic energy there is nothing wrong with the choice of an expandable head. In your sons case he made the correct choice for his low poundage setup. Remember there are those out there that can handle 80 lbs of draw weight easier than others may handle 60lbs.

The reason I am against mechanical broadheads is this. Anyone who says that penetration of a mechanical broadhead is equal to a fixed blade is wrong.
I have a Muzzy and a Steelhead that would beg to differ....

Welcome to the forums. Back away from the keyboard...take a deep breath and relax. You are coming probably not the way you intend to.

I shoot a well-tuned bow at 70 lbs and I have no problem getting 2 inch cutting diameter expandables to blow through deer and into the dirt on the other side.

I agree that a well tuned bow is essential to shoot any head but shot placement is equally as important.

Not ALL us avid 3D shooters who keep our equipment perfectly tuned choose to shoot expandable heads. I experimented with them and decided they're more trouble than they're worth.

I shoot fixed blade, cut on contact heads on relatively heavy arrows with sufficient feather fletching to stabilize them at slow (according to today's standards) to moderate speeds. Easy to tune, pleasant to shoot, quiet, accurate and deadly.

I differ in my approach in that I use hunting weight arrows for target shooting vs the majority who are using target weight arrows for hunting.[&:]

It's absolute statements like this that can get you into trouble on this forum. It's seems that you've never heard of a fixed blade broadhead called the Razor-ring. There have also been some cheap fixed broadhead products on the market that have had very dull blades. In both of these cases the penetration has been limited.

Like Frank said "...take a deep breath and relax." Your intentions have merit but your approach may need some adjustment.

ewolf:

Do not let some of the "forum elitists" get to you. Many of them estimate your age and knowledge by how many posts you have made.[X(] You will soon know who they are.

This forum is not a country club, and there is no pre-posting initiation requiring to you to quietly crawl in, post only concurring an non-oppositional post for a non-determined period, and whimper while you lick a bunch of feet. Say what you have to say and ignore the clamoring of the criers.

Do not let the elitists dictate what words you shall use to say what you have to say. As long as what you say is not in violation of the forum rules, tell those that do not like it to go fly a kite. If you watch closely, you will see many hypocritical posts.

Some of what you have said rings true. Your opinions may not be completely factual, and they may have some heat to them, but they are your opinions.

Jeez! What a condescending invite to someone! [:'(]

DONT USE MECHANICAL BROADHEADS! Tune your bows properly and you don't need them.

[[quote]My outrage comes from 2 people shooting 80lbs of draw weight, mechanical broadheads.
Maybe you should yell at them, not everyone on this forum. I use mechanicals all the time and have no problems with them at all, ever. If you don't like them, Just keep it to yourself, because I personally don't want to hear your crap period...[&o]
