I currently shoot a Scott Mongoose off the string, If I should switch to a D-Loop with a different release with a shorter head such as the Fletcher Jim Dandy loop release will my draw lenght shorten or will one equal out the other.

A release with a shorter head will make up the differance that you would loose useing a release with a longer head.

Use a string loop and not the metal loops out there.

The mongoose is a big release, but I shoot the L'il goose, and the scott caliper with equal ease off string loops, and with proper form. I don't know if you could ever screw the head back far enough into your palm to get what you want with the mongoose, but you could try. The loop doesn't add that much length to your set-up, maybe 1/2"-3/4"

When shooting a wrsits trap release with back tension, you can have your finger curled back so far that it's opposite the point of your thumb. It's not actualy good form to have the finger reaching way out there.

Thanks guys, I already have the release head way back in my hand. If I decide to go this way I might look at some of the wrist strap releases with the shorter heads designed for use with D-loops.

You should take a serious look at the TRU BALL Short-N-Sweet. It's an excellent felling release that shoots as smooth as anything you'll find.

If you like Scott releases another of similar design to the Short and Sweet is the Scott "Rhino" . This is the release I use for shooting off a string loop and it is my favorite.
