Wrist strap releases do help you pull the string of the bow with less fatigue on your hand. Because the weight is displaced around your wrist you will not feel the pressure on your fingers as you would with a tab or finger grip release. This translates into being able to hold your bow at draw for as long as your back and arm strength will allow. Can you pull more weight with a release? I don' t know, can you? If you go to a shop that will fit you and your bow with the correct equipment (string loop, maybe shorten the draw, adjust the release, etc) you can have them up the poundage of your bow until you feel comfortable. (for this reason alone I would buy the release from a good archery shop with a shooting range.)

There are almost no disadvantages to getting a release that I have found. Try out a few to find one that fits your style and hand. good luck!

In my own experience with releases the ones that wrap around your wrist are harder to pull than the hand held release.jmho.

I believe the wrist strap is easier to use. It feels funny at first but once you get confortable with it, it' s fine. Then again if we were all the same we would only need one bow maker.

Speaking from the standpoint of someone who is challenged in the finger dept., yes I can pull more weight with a wrist strap. It gives me a better sense of security too. Hand held releases just seem like they want to slip.

It gets even easier when you use a glove style release. Not only is the weight displaced aroud the wrist but it is also displaced in the palm of your hand when you grab the realease. I don' t know if you can actually pull more weight because your your back and arm muscles do all of the work drawing the string and not your hand. But a glove realease does displace a lot more of the strain on your wrist and fingers.

to answer your question about releases, they will help you pull more weight back.
you also need to keep in mind what your max weight is that you can hold for along period of time. This should be taken into consideration first incase of having to hold the bow back for that perfect shot.
