New Bow, Assistance with New Arrows

We are using the AMO standard that most manufactuers use today. The actuall deflection in which the higher the number, the weaker the spine.
We are not using the new made up spine deflection numbers whick Carbon Express and PSE shaft and some others utilize today where the higher the the number the stiffer the spine.
And....
Gotcha, even on the "Hunting" set-up on OT2, I'm seeing a 340 being good, but I agree, too stiff is definitely easier than too weak when trying to get that thing tuned. I've put .340's in my couple of 60# bows and gotten it done, but I'm not even about to try with a .400 in my 72# Katera XL, because I know how that would turnout, and I don't have any hair left to pull out!!!

I used the numbers given and run them through Archers Advantage.Sometimes AA will require stiffer shafts than OT2 but I have found that they seem to always work with broadheads.I would much rather be on the stiff side than the weak side.I have used OT2 in the past and much preferr AA.

OK TFOX....So we are saying the same thing in different languages....I'm old school, you new. But, we ALL agree that it is the stiffer spined arrow he needs. You are using a computer program and I am blowing the dust off my hair covered computer.
However, I don't think this gentleman is up, nor am I apparently, on this enough to utilize the information as you have presented. This must be taken into consideration when trying to help someone.
Do you think he will go look for a .340 shaft in the arrow display box....or will it be a 300, 400, or 65/80 or 75/90? I am bein serious because I haven't bought any arrows for 3 yrs now. I still have plenty.
Unless shafts have changed, I suspect it will be as above. If they have changed, then you got him on the right path. And I am behind times. In that case we both appreciate the lesson! But bottomline, and I am being as serious and humble as can be because I don't know for certain, and he will need to know, which will be on the side of the arrow in the display box?

Dave,
Actually, OnTarget2 is a great program and it's pretty easy to use. You can get a FREE DOWNLOAD to use for 2 weeks from www.pinwheelsoftware.com and toy with it to see if you like it, before you have to buy it. Check it out, it's a pretty cool program for drawing trajectories, spining arrows, and such. Well worth the $20 I spent for my own personal uses alone.

Archers Advantage is MUCH more user friendly to use and I have used them both.

Dryridge, actually if looking at Easton or Beman arrows, they will say what spine they are, usually 500,400,340,300.They have it right on the arrow. They even have some other shafts that have a much wider range of spine selections.
Carbon Express uses their own terminology. My program list what spine they are but not sure where else you can find that info.
Goldtip uses the 45/60 type labeling but that is LESS THAN ACCURATE.You can go to their website and find what the rated spine deflection is but their charts are way off because of how they label their shafts.
With the WIDE range of efficiency (250 fps ibo-360 fps ibo)from todays bows,a chart won't get it done anymore. You either need years of experience with spine deflections or a program(or both) to figure out what spine deflection is needed.
