I was torn as to which was better until I got a Trophy Taker. Now, fall away, all the way. I love my Trophy Taker. My QAD gave me lots of problems, but it turns out it just wouldn't work with my bow, and nothing to do with the quality of the rest.

QAD = Quality Archery Designs. Makers of one of the best fall away rests on the market. Brand is sorta synonymous with the product. Won't work with every bow, though.

As far as the TT...well, it's all metal. Super durable. Very quiet, simple operation, and just works flawlessly and silently with my bow. There are other good rests out there; the Whisker Biscuit, QAD (Hunter and Ultra HD models), and the Trophy Taker are just the fall away/containment rests I have experience with.

If you're gonna get a drop-away, have a good shop install it and time it correcty, and I personally think that he micro-tune ones are worth their weight in GOLD to help you get your bow tuned to it's optimal potential.

Take a look at the Vapor Trail Limb Driver. They are super easy to setup and absolutely worth the $100.

I use the Dropzone. Never tried WB.
IMO fletching contact with rest is to be avoided.

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

I switched from a bisquit to a QAD just last week. i keep forgetting my Wrenches when I go to the range so I havent sighted it in yet....but i can tell you that it is tremendously more consistent.

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I personally prefer the simplicity of the WB for my hunting bows. When I'm in the field I don't want another possible failure point in an already overly complex system. The WB is there and working every shot without fail, nock the arrow set it in the rest and forget about it. And face it, you're not (or most shouldn't be) shooting past 40 yards anyway. I haven't noticed a bit of difference in accuracy or performance at ranges out to 50 yards. Beyond that I have to give the nod (and only by a very slight improvement) to the drop away. My target bows either have an old spring launcher or a drop away. Of the drop aways I think the QAD HD is my favorite to date but I hear good things about the Limb Driver.

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

the problem i have with the wiker biscuit is that if i get a little peel up from my vane; the vane is halfway ripped off after 10 more shots. and it also seems to tear up vanes more(the wisker biscuit) i like the WB in that the arrow cant fall off and its simple and easy to usse

KodiakArcher 11-17-2008 06:52 PM

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

Make sure that your vanes have a dab of glue on the leading and trailing edges and you shouldn't have any problem with them lifting off. Some places do this and some don't. Mine are even helical fletched and stay put.

The QAD HD, and a few otherscan be locked in the up position so that the arrow is held in place until the shot, similar to the full capture of the WB.

You might also like the APA Ultimate Twiter Safari full capture rest. It's only $70.

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

Mossbergman: I am not sure if you are the kid asking about stabilizers but if you are and you are new to archery like you said -- do yourself a favor and stick with the wisker biscuit until you get comfortable shooting. I used a biscuit for a year and am going to a drop away just now on my 3rd year. Its easy and it does the job man. If you do decide to go to the drop away -- Ripcord, QAD, or Limbdriver.

Black Stick 11-17-2008 07:42 PM

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

I completely forgot about that angle. My bad. You might just want to stick to the WB until you get used to shooting. However, I saw some of your youtube videos and it looks like you can put a pretty tight group together. BTY the four wheeler on two was awesome. I think you're ready to upgrade, but you might want to consider that. Thanks to FSU. BTY I saw the game on Saturday. That sucks! I want to go to FSU to get my masters degree.

so put glue on the very fron and back of feather?
i might buy a fall away like the ones reccommeded but im keeping my biscuit for the rest of hunting season and maybe switch in the offseason

haha thanks black stick. me and mossberghunter93 make videos and put them up on youtube;)

thanks everyone for all the help. greatly appreciated for a new guy in bowhunting

I thought you staged that because it was timed so well.

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

well..ill say one thing.

i bought my bow used(03' or 04' Martin Prowler se)three years ago with the Whisker buiscuit on it...and i havent had to touch/tinker withthe thing one time....i check and make sure everything is tight from time to time and thats it....slap her on the bow and forget about it....They are perfectly accurate for hunting ranges,(on my good days i can shoot 3 arrows at 30 yards and all the shafts will be touching or very close to touching eachother fairly regularly)dont let anyone feed you any b.s about them not being accurate....

they are bullet proof...and bullet proof is exactly whats neededin a huntingsetup.

also i use feathers for fletching.... wisker Buiscuits love feather fletching
(it will tatter the edge of the feather a bit but it doesnt hurt anything....i put my own arrows together to save cost- i shoot aluminums still)...
wisker buiscuitstend to wrinkle plastic vanes....
as long as Feathers are available ill never shoot plastic the rest of my life.

if you want to switch to a Drop away thats cool.... do your thing....but i wouldnt necesarrily call it an upgrade like some have said.

Black Stick 11-18-2008 09:04 PM

RE: whisker biscuit vs. fall away?

I agree that they are accurate if you are a statue, but most of us are not. A machine can shoot a perfect 30x on Vegas targets with a Black Mamba X1 just as easily as with a black ice. It doesn't matter if you put a drop away or WB on that thing will shoot it the same every time. It's more about form. Drop aways just make it easier for the average shooter that moves a little bit where as the WB will show every bit of it.

I am absolutely shocked that you are shooting feathers through a WB. I tried it for the heck of it because someone told me that the WB would rip them right off. Ten shots later, that arrow had nothing left but glue. I shoot feather because they are lighter than vanes, but would never seriously put them though a WB.

IMO, a drop away is an upgrade because I shoot better scores with it than with a WB.

False...that they dont work

i get hundred(s) of shots out of my fletches....i use double sided tape and glue the ends....they work fine...and iuse a pretty good offset with a helical.if i dont take my time while fletching i tend not to do so good of a job and will get an end or two on the feathers that pull up...when i do a good job they last all year.

my guess is something went wrong in the way you fletched.

[8D] it takes practice and patience to be good at fletching feathers....seriously.

ive learned a few tricks on my own...and can say that i do a pretty good job with it.... when i started i wasnt that good at it....and can understand why you might get a feather too peel up premature.

 I shoot helical 4 fletch uncut flu-flu's through mine without issue. Something's up with either your tuning or fletching if you're tearing off a regular feather.
