roskoe, i haven't done any testing or observing w/ 80# bows, but my 63# target bow shooting 320 gr arrows wears them out faster than my 66# hunting bow w/ 520 gr arrows, much faster. w/ an 80# bow, you have to realize we need to use 2 extra strands in the string, so some of the speed you pick up is negated by the extra weight of the strands, and so the 3 way relationshipof strand count to poundage to arrow weight changes. there's too much going on i think to draw a direct correllation from poundage to string life. its more of a 3 way relationship. i would say at real low poundages - 40-50#, the strings last longer - because we can only drop so many strands - to meet what's neededand still have a thick enough string for center serving. so i'll make a 45# bowstring out of 20 strands of 452x, just like i will a 70# bowstring. if asked i'll drop it to 18 strands, but not beyond that, and you could probably use 16 strands, or even 14 for a 45# bow. i always use 20-24 strands for the cables, and that's more related to the cam than poundage, but over 70# always gets 24.
