One other thing that frustrates me is that you need to press the bow to adjust the peep rotation, but simply pressing the bow will change the peep rotation.

The bow needs to be shot enough to settle it back in at the new peep location. If you are lucky it will be aligned, if not .....

True to some degree, but if you look at where the peep is and whether it needs 1/4, 1/2 or whatever rotation before you press it just trust in that and make the correct adjustment (don't pay attention to what it does once you start to press the bow). When you retension everything and draw it a couple times it will settle into where it's going to stay. If it's changing every time you press the bow and changing more when you shoot it again then you really need a better string.

A lot of times I can get it to do right just by twisting the string so thepeep isstraight and holding it there while drawing the bow about 12" or so. I'll usually tug andlet down and give it a couple moretugsbefore I finally let all the waydown andturn loose of the string to see if rotation has changed. Doesn't work every time, but it's something to try before you go to the trouble of pressing the bow and all that.

You are right, I do need a better made string. I use one of the worst string makers around. That would be me!

But I'm getting better.

What material are you using? That's the bigger issue. I've had real good success with UltraCam but I hear good things about 452x and Excel as well.

Rob,

I use 452X. I have recently done a much better job since I got the BCY microstretcher. It allows me to put a lot of tension on a string to even out the load on each of the strands. My last string was left under tension for several hours before I served it and I've hadfewer problems with that string than any other.

Any other string building tips?

Thanks,
Allen

Be careful with this one... it's the best way to break a strand if done at full poundage. I'll still press the bow to do this.
I guess I should have clarified further. I was suggesting using a press to relax the string prior to rotating the strands.

Nothing from me. I'm still in the learning phase as well. I've been having a heck of a time with the center serving on this last string, the loop keeps separating it and causing the nock point to shift up the string. [&:] I've served hundreds of strings and never had one quite this troublesome.
