Default String Cleaning?

With everyone asking about what type of wax everyone is using, another question came to mind. So after searching this site, I was unable to find an answer.

Does anyone clean their string prior to applying wax? If so, what do you use (products purchased or home made)and how do you use it?

Thanks.

I saw cleaners in the reconditiong kits but never gave it a second thought. Anything to keep 60 dollars in my pocket.

I just wax it.....I mean, I guess if there were obvious patches of mud I would clean it off though...

I saw a tip on another post about cleaning and waxing strings once that really made sense, so I tried it once and was amazed at the result. I wish I remember who it was who gave the tip, but I can't. Anyhow, whoever it was, said that before you wax the string, take a peice of dental floss and wrap it once around the string and pull it real tight on both ends ( kinda like you are trying to choke the string), then slide the floss up the string. You won't beleive the crap that comes out of the string. old wax, dirt particles etc. I did it and was amazed!. Then when you are done re wax the string very thoroughly. The guy said that it gets rid of dirt particles that can actully knick and damage the string fibers when re-waxing. It made a beleiver out of me.

Does it matter if the dental floss is mint flavored? lol

Thanks a lot. I am just about to wax my string because Nascar is on and I have nothing better to do. Thanks. I will try it out.

Proff, you the man. The dental floss trick worked amazingly well. The crap that came off my string was unbelievable. Thanks again!

That is just an amazing tip. And it doesn't cost anything.
I just put VT on my bows ,but I'll give it a try later in the summer after some 3D.
