RE: So why don't you guys like Mathews?
The problem I have is no archery dealers around to see and shoot different bows. The only close one is a Mathews dealer and so you can guess what he wants me to buy.I'd like to give others a try but have to rely only on what I hear and read about. After reading all the posts here I really don't know what to do now.Money is an issue but then again it isn't.I would like to have a good honest bow.One that IS good not addvertised as good.Any further input would be great. Thanks

Mathews makes a decent bow, and they certainly did lead the pack in some respects in past years- but what kills me is the marketing B.S. that is spewed toward the general archery buyer. And it comes in heaps. Just pick up any bowhunting or archery magazine and look at the 5 to 7 PAGES in a row of advertising! But I'll admit the barrage of advertising and paying huge amounts to the shooting staff certainly has worked for them.
Here's a sample of the crap in their literature. This is from the Mathews 2002 catalog.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>The problem with two cams is their tendency to "fight" each other. They're almost never in perfect sync, which means accuracy and tuning problems.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote>
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>WIth just one cam, there is no longer a timing problem. Tuning is much easier. Accuracy much greater.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote>
Statements like that is why I don't care for Mathews. An unkowning buyer who doesn't do their homework will believe this garbage. I don't like a company that tries to snow their potenial customers with bad or misleading information.
Now that Hoyt has dumped all their single cams, I'm sure that Mathews is questioning what the heck they're gonna do now. The cover of Archery Trade magazine hat the BIG title something to the effect "Are two cams making a comeback?" It'll be intersting to see what Mathews does now that they have based their entire existance on touting greatness of the ONE CAM.

I dont like Mathews, because they sell all there bows by advertisment, they have to much money, charge to much for the bows, you cant change draw length or poundage with a modual. I like the little guy, the one trying to make it on his own. If Mathews is so good, why is his brother Ed McPherison, now Vice Pres. of CSS BOWS made in WV..I know Prof. shooters for Mathews that would like to shot The CSS bow, but Mathews pays them to shoot for them and small Cos. cant afford it, I know one shooter that was a world champ AMO loved the CC Bow he was shooting but Mathews offered $40,000 a year to shoot Mathews, Look at all of the Big endorsers the switch from one bow to another saying it is the best because of money, whoever pays the most gets them, so there.
