RE: More Hype Please
Cannot judge the 2003 lineup until it has been released! The "hype" is here currently for four or five manufacturers who "jumped the gun", but there are lots of others working hard on their products so they can be ready for release at the 2003 AMO show. I'll save my comments for the 2003 lineup until the 2003 products are released in 2003. Until January 1,2003, as far as I'm concerned everything is a 2002.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
I hear through the "underground" that some of the 2003 lineups will have some interesting developments. If Hoyts' "late 2002 models"<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> are any indication of this trend, it should be an exciting year. Looking forward to the show! Flights and hotel are already booked, registration for the show is done, just waiting for Janurary to come! (Can hunt till Dec 15, so it shouldn't be too bad of a wait.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>) Good shooting, Pinwheel 12

RE: More Hype Please
I agree with Frank.
Hoyt Razortec
Darton Avalanche (new model with CPS Extreme cam- I might own one of these)
Bowtech dually-Patriot (I just may own one of these as well)
Mathews? I don't know what's new for them.
PSE? I don't know enough about their models.
Merlin? Love them to death but have no idea if they are coming out with something new for 2003. PW12? Any hints for me to hang on?
Trends? Well I think Hoyt is providing the marketing for the trend that has been coming, and the road that Darton has forged quite a few years ago. And that trend is to start moving away from the single-cam technology, to a hybrid system, or back to dual cams. Not sure what Mathews is going to do about that- after all their "dual cams are history" blah blah for years, they certainly can't come out with a dual cam bow without looking like total idiots.
You'll see more developments in shock absorbing items. I know Darton is incorporating some of Martins riser dampeners in some of their new models. Bowtech Vibrablock is something I'd like to try out as well.
But like PW12 said- until we see the whole playing field for 2003, we won't get the complete picture. Isn't it fun to guess though? The next couple of years will be VERY interesting to see how things progress, and how the archery consumers will react. Here we now have Hoyt, a MAJOR player in archery departing from ALL their single cam designs for the new cam system. And I'm sure Mathews will stick with what's been working for them, which is ALL single cam technology. Instead of the big dogs running together, now we start to see them running in slightly different directions......

RE: More Hype Please
Black Frog-
I am "sworn to secrecy" on any new Merlin stuff before the AMO show. Yes, there will be some "cool stuff" for 2003. That's all I can say right now. I'll let you (and everyone) know more when I am "allowed to".
But, I can safely say you can start licking your chops......again. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Good shooting, Pinwheel 12

RE: More Hype Please
rrrrrrrr.......
I suppose I'll just have to hold off ordering a(the) new bow(s) until later.... DAMN ALL THIS SECRECY!! I want to know NOW! I'm a CONSUMER, I have money to SPEND! TELL ME, tell me, tell me!! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
hmmm- a new Darton, new Bowtech, a new Merlin... I suppose PA will be miffed if I don't consider buying a Hoyt in there somewhere! But I've been shooting the equivalent of the new 2003 Hoyt for three years now- it's called the CPS system!! Buwahahahahaahaaaahahaha..... (evil laugh with ominous low pipe organ note) Sorry Frank- it's just too easy! The new Hoyts ARE very impressive, I just like pushing the buttons of all you Hoyt guys. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: More Hype Please
Black Frog, what can you share on the specs of the new Darton Avalanche? I've always wanted to shoot a Darton after hearing so many good thoughts on their draw cycle, but haven't yet had the chance.

RE: More Hype Please
Range-
From what the excellent folks at Darton have told me, the new Avalanche has just the specs I've been looking for in a new hunting bow for next year. Around 35" a-t-a, 7.5"-ish brace height. It will feature the updated CPS cam system called CPS Extreme, along with riser dampeners that have been licensed from Martin. Don't know exact speed numbers, but I'm guessing in the 310-ish range. Can't wait to try it!

P12,
"Jumping the gun..."? I prefer to think of it as "Bucking the trend"....<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>
Blackfrog,
Yes, I will be miffed. You can have my Razortec when I put it up on Ebay in a week or so...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
