Default Not trying to start trouble

I am not trying to start troble, just giving results. I am shooting a Parker feather mag 61 lbs. at 27" with Easton epic arrows that weigh 344 grains with a 100 gr. head. I settled on the Rocket steel head 100 mechanical with a lot of reservations after getting a lot of good advice on this site. I had a doe come in 30 min. after my 10 year old missed a big doe at 20 yards.(he shot right under her chest but used his 10 yard pin instead of his 20). The doe was about 25 yards and came in fast. I had to bleat with my mouth to get her to stop. I used my 20 yard pin and thought I had missed but my son said I hit her. The deer trouted about 50 yards, stopped and fell over. There was a huge hole where the head came out. The arrow went thru the dear like a rocket (pun intended)and I thought I had missed it. I hit a little low due to the deer being about 26 yds. and I used my 20 yard pin. I think this head gave great results out of my under powered bow but with a bad hit, I could have had a problem, maybe? Has anyone else had any bad or good results with this head. As of right now, this is going to be my first choice for a head.Don

Don,

I think you made an excellent choice of broadheads...more specifically, expandables. Up until the Rocket Naildriver came along this year I would have generally recommended the Steelhead as my "go to" head when it comes to marginal Kinetic Energy setups.

Both suit marginal KE setups rather well both in terms of penetration and overall tissue damage. I have used the Steelhead 100s for 2 years now with nothing but good results. I had the opportunity to try the Naildriver on a doe a few weeks and was also pleased.

I am glad to hear that you have had good results as well.

Just last saturday afternoon I shot a 9 pt. buck with a Rocket Sidewinder(1.5" cut) at 18 yards quartering away from 22 ft up. The arrow buried to the fletch. When I found the deer 60 yards away it had a huge entrance & exit wound and the head was actually stuck in the far side leg bone. Now I am only shooting 60 lbs with a 370 grain arrow @ 260 fps which equates to about 54 ft lbs of KE. My bow was tuned to shoot bullet holes and in my opinion there was no problem with penetration, even on the quartering away shot. The key I think is what everyone says, have a well tuned bow and good shot placement.
