Default BK II - Gimme the low down

I will be in the market for a new bow next year. I have been a Mathews shooter for a while but I am not real impressed with their new stuff. I'm sure they are quiet and all but I want some speed. The BK II definately fits the bill, however, the Patriot looks plenty fast and a little more forgiving, maybe quieter I do have a few questions though;

1. How loud is it compared to a Patriot? Is it huntable?

2. How is hand shock? Is it as smooth as a Patriot?

3. Dual cams. Is this better or worse than a single cam. What is/was the advantage of the Solo Cam anyway. It appears bows are gradually going back to dual cams. Can anyone give me the pro's and con's of each?

Thanks ahead of time for the info.

It's not much louder than the Patriot. By all means quiet enough for a hunting bow. Cool thing is you can load em up with ehvay arrows and still get some serious speed out of em, and that makes them very quiet. I've found with a set of limbsavers and the right stabilizer it's as quiet as your average onecam bow.

Is it as smooth as a Patriot?<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote> It has more shock than the Patriot. But again, not significantly more. See my answer for your first question.

Largely a matter of opinion. After a several year stint with onecams, I've come to the conclusion that YES, the duals overall are better than the singles from a technical standpoint. They are more tune-able to your particular form, are less sensitive to torque, not as finicky about arrow selection, less senistive to creep, and overall provide for a more forgiving set-up when you are &quot;off&quot;.

Singlecams, IMO require a more &quot;agressive&quot; shot which makes you have to keep up on your form a bit more than the duals.

One cam bows need to be timed...don't let anyone or any advertising fool you regarding that. They don't have anything to synch up with, but they DO have to be timed. They also require an IMMACULATELY engineered idler..if a bushing is slightly worn or the idler is slighty out of round, it will affect your nock point height on each shot (since the idler rotates slighty at each shot) causing accuracy/consistency problems.

In the single's defense, they are generally quieter, have less recoil and vibration, and are very accurate these days if you get a quality design. They improve every year.

The real problem has been quality string materials and construction. If the material does not creep..no problems..regardless of whether the bow has one two, three, or NO cams (longbows and recurves are affected by creep as well).

Yes I believe the market is going away from the &quot;traditional&quot; single cam design. Some companies such as BT are focusing on duals, and some have gone/are going to hybrid systems like the 8 year old CPS from Darton, and the new Hoyt cam and a half. I think you will see more deviation from the tradtional single cams by all but a handful of companies in the next couple of years. A very welcome turn of events, IMO.

Interstingly enough, I'm hunting with singlecam bow though it's due to more to personal need for a certain set of &quot;specs&quot; than cam type.

My pleasure. Hope it was helpful in some way.

I haven't shot the patriot but have a BK II. It is quiet enough to hunt with. I just have limb savers and a carbon impact stab on the front, nothing on the string. I missed the same deer twice a few weeks ago and after both shots the deer just looked around and continued grazing. The third shot was a different story. Quiet enough to give you more than one chance. It has very minimal hand shock for the speed you get out of it. It is a nice shooting bow. Can't tell you about the patriot until i get mine when they come out with the dual cam.

A Mathews shooter thinking about a BowTech.......just proof that even a BlindSquirrel finds a nut every now and then!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> (Get it.....Blindsquirrel? *enter rimshot here* )<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Seriously folks I just flew in from California and BOY are my arms tired!.......*gimme another rimshot*

Oh I'm on a roll now.......

You have gotten good advice, I'm just here on this one for the comic relief. <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

But I will add.......upwards of 90+ ft lbs of KE? Yeah that dog'll hunt! I was thinking about slowing my Dual Cam Pro38 down a bit by fletching up my garden shovel, but I figured the spine might be a tad stiff.
Oh somebody stop me!!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

blindsquirel, I'll just say the BKII would be fine for hunting, then slowly back out of here.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
