After reading BTShooters post on the bowtech line, the Samson really got me thinking. I have been thinking about trying to find a 80-90lb bow. About 75% of my hunting is for elk so I don't think that there can be such thing as overkill and I guess my reason for considering it is that poor shots do happen i.e. shoulder hits and the thought of a 600 grain arrow travelling in the 280 fps range REALLY intrigues me. I know a 40# bow can blow through an elk if everything is right but I'm thinking worst case scenerio. What would be the drawbacks of shooting such a set-up? I would think shooting that heavy of an arrow would negate any affects that the extra vibration would induce on the bow. I know I can handle the weight. I used a friends Mathew Safari(?) set at 95# for about a year and had no problems with it. I'm 6'1" 220 lbs. and bench press 300lbs+. Handling it is a non-issue. What other bows are available in this weight range??? Why should I not shoot this weight if I can handle it? Just looking for your opinions. Thanks!

The PSE Gorilla is still available from their custom shop in 80 and 100 pound draw weights.
It is, imo, stronger built than the Safari or Samson.
The bow alone weighs 51/2 lbs and it's brute strong.
Of course, if you want the ultimate bow in draw weights to 100lbs.

Just want to add to what Sag said. The 2003 samson will be built stronger and smoother shooting than it has been in the past (not that the current design was poor or weak). The 2003 Samson will be built on the Extreme VFT riser which is a "Pro" style fully machined riser and it will have parallel limbs design. I can't compare it to the others yet but when they come out you may want to give one a try...

If you're just hunting Elk shooting a 80+ lb draw is not exactly overkill. BUT, I think that when you walk into the woods with that much power you tend to believe you can kill with a shot from almost any angle/range. That would be a mistake.
