really you don't have to soak them, just skin and trim off the meat and pour salt on the skull and hang up for a couple days, wash off and resalt.after a couple days wash off and let dry.then put on the plaque.

if you really want to soak;then put some borax in a pot and enough water to cover the skull (Be sure not to put to much water, don't get the water on the horns) bring to a boil and boil till all the meat falls off, then let dry.
BE SURE TO DO THIS OUT SIDE!!!!![:'(]the smell will cause the wife to file papers[:'(][][&:]

Soak it nothing. All you need to do is clean off all the meat and the membrane from on the inside of of the skull. I usually rub on a libral amount of salt on it and just let it dry out. No soaking, boiling of any kind is needed.

If fresh I do like the others cape it, clean off the meat, membrane and salt it. If I want to mount it without wrapping the skull cap, I wrap the cap with cotton baton and place in foil cake pan let it soak in 50/50 solution of Peroxide and water for a day or so.

If not fresh you will most likely have to boil it and I just use salt water. When boiling I make sure to wrap the anlter bases with alum. foil to prevent any discolouration on the pedicles or lower antler. Like TC stated do it outside!!!! I use a large water kettle (yard sale special..lol) and hot plate - a gentle boil is all you want. If you have to boil for extended periods make sure to check water level and keep it topped up.

if you look under articles on this site there is one on skull mounting that could be used for skull plate as well I would think.
