Hereis a link to some free reference photos. These should help you decide what to do with the eyes. Using photos from living deeris the best way togauge your work or others.

I see no reason to paint around the eyes like a coon, deer and coons are not related, also the position of the ears is all wrong, and the butts also, the grooming needs to also be improved, just my humble opinion.
You can remove all that paint with lacquer thinner, it won't harm the hair.

I agree I don't like how it is painted. If that was natual I would want it to be put on my head but not painted on. I like how the one ear is different than the other. Makes it look more life like.

That ain't right saltflat

I personally think the taxidermist can and probably will fix the coloration around the eye if you ask him, I also don't particularly like the way the ears turned out... I don't think he can change them now though...

BTW that is one heck of a nice 10 pointer!

Most of the deer around here (NC) have dark around the eyes. If I knew how to post pictures on here I'd show you one that I just mounted, and it is dark around the eyes. I won't comment on others work but the only person that has to be happy with it is the person paying for it. Maybe I should spend more time on the computer instead of mounting deer so I would know how to post my pictures on here.LOL
