Default Golf and Target Archery = (almost) Congruent

This statement by Matt/PA sparked this line of thinking......

Either you want to win or you want to have fun. You can ALMOST do both.
I swear....the more I go along with this target archery....the more I liken it to golf. I've had numerous discussion wih RJ about this....and Matt a little, too.

Besides the mindsets for both being similar.....let's look at the last few tournaments I've shot in.

From the last Sage Creek.....40 yds+ max (I think Aaron shot one at 48yds after he shot it).....and I shot 283. I didnt shoot "bad". Didn't shoot "great".What I did was shoot on a tough "course". Comparatively to golf....I was 2 over (My game). Last weekend....I shot a freakin 183 on 20 targets. That's like shooting 80 on the golf course. That's pitiful. Same guy turns around 7 days later and shoots 212........29 points better than the last week. That's like shootin' 3-4 under.

To many.....I guess you can correlate your "bogey's" with dropped targets (be that 8's or 5's.....depending on your skill level). I just know I didn't shoot that bad a few weeks ago with Brandon....but I couldn't land 12's. So....I shoot 198 and feel like I should've shot 206-208. Game of inches. I felt like I lipped a few birdie putts out.

The difference between a good round and a great round is a thin line......a pulled line.....or a few that catch the lip.

I find more and more similarities to these games as I learn more about archery.....from the mental....to even the equipment (yes...golfers 'tinker', too). What some peoplesee as others being"anal" about theirequipment....others KNOW it as the edge they require to be their best.

They are WAY more alike than many know......these two great games.

I fully agree but on a different level.

1. Golf started formejust by trying to not lose balls, 3-D trying to just hit every target. After I mastered that then I'd try to hit every green, 3-D try to get a 8/10. Once I prove to myself I could hit the green then I'd start to aim for the flag, 3-D trying for X instead of that 8/10.

2. Grip, form, follow through sound familiar?

3. Now to scoring.. This past weekend, I had some demons in my head that I been trying to work through (I shot last night in the rain[&:]) but I had 6x's on Sunday. Now on my way home sunday I was thinking man if I could move those 5's over just a hair to a 8 or better yet a 10 well you get the point. Related to Golf... If I could have just two putted or better yet one putted on three holes I'd drop potentially 6 strokes. I think you see my point, it's those few 12 X's that keep me coming back.
