Default Being tested

I have a 14 week old yellow lab i am trying to train. The problem i am having is while trying to work with him all he wants to do is run off and not listen i tried fetching with a leash and he sometimes will pick up the bumby and sometimes if he does pick it up he tries to run off with it. He doesnt listen at all i have another adult lab in the same area as where i work him and all he wants to do is play.Is this normal for a puppy to act like this and at what age should i start to see him be more interested in learning than playing.

Reel him in on a lead, make a big fuss like he doing the best thing ever, walk backwards as he comes back to you. Do only 2-3 three throws MAX. Get Jackie Mertens' video- "Sound Beginnings".

My stock question:

What training books/tapes are you using as your training guide?

NEVER try to train a pup around another dog[]

DO NOT kennel a pup and an older dog together [:'(]

At 14 weeks, the pup is getting ready to lose his baby teeth -- NO retrieves until teething is complete.

At 14 weeks old I wouldn't worry at all. He is a puppy let him be a puppy. Train him to come, sit and down. I agree with Doc train him by himself.
Remember he is just a pup and enjoy your new best friend.

"Smartwork I", "SmartFetch", Smartwork II" -- All by Evan Graham. These are books. You will glean MUCH more information from books than from tapes -- the exception to this is the Lardy E-collar tape.

IMO, the Waterdog tape is pretty lame.
