Casey got his OFA certs

OFA = Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.
X-rays are taken of your dog's hips and elbows. Then a panel of 5 Veterinary Radiologists review those pictures for genetic/hereditary defects that could be passed on through breeding.
With these certifications, I can feel assured that if I breed Casey someday, that he will not pass along any genetic defects to his offspring. ANY ethical breeding should include OFA for hips and elbows as well as CERF for eyes for both parents.

Way to go and congratulations !
Personally I really think is says alot about the breeder when they have cert' s done on thier dogs,,,when I bought mine I was looking for a breeder that cared for the breed itself ,,not the money it would make him. Looks like you got a good news with yours ! Mine are not old enough to get their clearances, thier parents had good ones, but after some titles I might consider breeding mine,IF they get good clearances and I think they would benefit the breed,,but mine are still puppies so I have a while to learn !
Congratulations Casey and Doc !

I certainly won' t breed Casey until he has AT LEAST a Hunting Retriever Champion - or Senior (Master Hunting Retriever) title. But, if he gets that far one of these days (or next year), we' ve got the OFA part done. Then would be a CERF within 12 months prior to breeding and a brucellosis tests for him and the female - and the female would have to be OFA Good or better on hips and Normal for elbows and have at least an equivalent title.
If a breeding won' t have a good chance of improving the breed, then don' t do it.
