I feed purina but may change. I went on a guided quail hunt over the weekend and the guide had his dogs on ol roy. He said he has been in the business for a long time and has never fed anything else. His dogs looked as healthy as any bird dog I have seen and man could they hunt. He said the most important thing was to be consistant in whatever you feed.

I won' t change any time soon. I have puppies on the way!!!

I feed Diamond Adult Premium,,my " boys" love it and maintain a great weight and have really good coats! and it is only about $ 16.00 a 50 lb bag,,,I go through 3 of them a month, compared to $23.00 a bag for Purina One and I would go through 4 of them a month!! Plus I give them Esther-C,Chron/Glucose supplements and a can of sardines at least once or twice a week.

Science Diet Active formula. It costs more per bag but you don' t need to feed much. I have two coonhounds on it, both weigh between 80 and 90 lbs and they get five cups per day during the hunting season and maintain their weight well. They get hunted at least three nights a week October to February. During the off season they get cut down to 3.5 to four cups a day or they get fat.

Heard from " pro" for a lack of better word, that common (walmart type) dogfood has too much protein for Retrievers. Heard anything on that? Does not make sense to me. I figure they are kinda like us. We use only the amount of protein we need and the rest goes out the back door.
