I am looking for a tracking sytem for my coon dogs and was wondering what yall thought the best one was. I have been looking at the Quick Track system what do yall think about this one?

that sorta all depends. first off how many dogs are you wanting to track at any givin time. next what type of coon hunting do you do. hunt from the truck or walk all night going to the dogs treed and thenrecasting them from the tree? also what kind of terrain are you in? quick track are a nice unit and the 6000 is real nice, but i wouldnt over look wildlife and LL tracking systems(which are the two i have in my dogbox at the time). my next purchase though will be a tracker maximum 5000 because of its handiness(if thats a word) they dont quite have the range of the larger units but my dogs rarely get over 5 miles away and they track that far. hope this helps

Well, we only have two dogs but we may track up to four. We usually let them out from the truck, wait for them to tree go to the tree then come back to the trick and turn them loose at a different location. The terrain is flat with thick woods and some fields here and there. So what do you think?

P.S. Our dogs rarely go farther than 5 miles either.

then i would stay away from the tracker models since you will be at the truck most of the time they are just handy because you can carry them on your belt.

LL tracking, is have a summer sale right now on all there tracking equipment and for the price their unit's they are great(i have one but cant remember the model number) i just bought a tracking collar there that last 16,000 for a hundred bucks.

wildlife has always been one of the number one companys also and i love mine. i use it the most(it is the trx10 model) which would be the only other company i would be looking at if it were me.

I run deer dogs and I can tell you that quicktrack makes the best tracking systems around. I don't actually know but maybe 1-2 people that hunt with those other tracking systems, and I am familar with most of my hunting club's members (270). But then again, I am not using my tracking system for coon dogs.

I would vote the Quick Track as well. Have used them on pointers, coon hounds and hog dogs. Great system and long range. If you want a tracker don't buy what you think you might need for your dog's range. Buy the longest available, if you don't you will wish you had. No problem if you don't need it but they need only to get out of range one time and you will wish you had it. You can burn a lot of gas with a lesser system driving around trying to get a signal when you have no idea where the dog went.

i agree with mez you need a system that will reach out there.(thats why i wouldnt buy tracker products) but i had a quick track 5000 and hated it for the fact it was to complicated to work but im sure the other models are easier. talked to a good friend and comp hunter last night and he said he has tracked dogs 13 miles with his wildlife 1000. that is pretty impresive in the timber we hunt in.

Looks like it'd be a nice system. I don't know how well it'd work for coon dogs since I'm sure they often get out of the 5 mile (line of sight) range.

for coon hunters those garmin trackers wouldnt be very helpfull. the battrey life on the collar is way to short (you might h have to leave a dog over night and come find him the next morning and it wouldnt last that long.) and under a tree canapy you wouldnt be able to get a signal. for bird hunters it might be alright though. just my thoughts.
