For basic OB, i don't like giving treats. I want my dog to obey me and not to perform for some treat. I started training simple stuff early on so now my dog expects it.
For the jumping, I trained my dog to 'woah' using a whistle and hand commands. She listens to both but the hand command is what I tell people to use to prevent her jumping on them. Its basically, saying 'stop'. My dog is a real people person. She'll want to be petted after jumping in mud ponds and the first reaction people have is to have their hands out yelling 'NO!' which is close enough.
If she does jump, put a knee up and let the dog slide off you. You dont have to kick the dog in the chest. But its rare now.
BTW, fat dogs rarely jump. :-)
