Default Can you train an older Britt puppy?

Looking at a deal on a 7 month old Brit pup. Can you still train him, or is it too late? Never trained a dog before, so any good books or videos on the subject? I've read about the pheasant wing and fishing ple method of point training, is that the best way?

you arent too late.. heck your still got a lot of time.. im going by the book by bill tarrant called Best way to train your bird dog: the delmar smith method. everyone recommends it and in the book he doesnt recommend seriously trining your pup until 1 year. odds and ends stuff as a pup but at 1 year is when the traning gets heavy

I would make sure he's obedience trained before beginning training to hunt birds.

I got my Springer when he was 11 months old and put him throught three levels of Obediance Training...
Once he was trained to obey (almost all my commands) it seemed like he understood and eagerly accepted bird training....Just my .02.

You are still in luck. I have bought books from amazon.com or other similar sites that were excellent and I payed no more that $5 per book. They were in great shape and you should be able to find books specificly for your breed. Positive reinforcement is the key. Punishing a dog does not teach them anything. Also since your new to training it would be a good idea to talk with someone who has experience. Often there are classes offered you can enroll yourself and your dog in that will help you both and you both get to socialize with other pets and owners.
