Default Sunday hunting in Virginia.

What has to be done to get through to the fish and game people and what has worked in other states? A working man only has one morning a week as it is now. There has to be a better way. What do you think?
Should it be allowed or should it be as is? How many other states are closed to Sunday hunters?

Welcome to one of the last strongholds of the Bible belt. The chances of ever getting Sunday hunting approved in Virginia are slim and none. While slim hasn't left town yet, he's down at the Greyhound station with a one way ticket in hand.

The politicians are not very likly to overturn the Sunday hunting ban because they really could give a rat's arse about the working man. All they are concerned with is all their big money buddies who either don't have to work, can take off anytime they want, or just plain pass the job off to some poor working stiff.

As for your question of should it be allowed or not, I say it should.
An extra day's income could really help many of the small mom and pop business that cater to the hunting community. There are only a few (maybe 5 or so) that don't allow Sunday hunting.

But what do I know, I'm just an uneducated college graduate.....

I agree that it will probably be a cold day in h**l before Virginia will allow Sunday hunting. Another thing I wish VA would do is open up bow season in September like North Carolina does. I sure would enjoy an extra month of hunting.

I live on the Va./Ky. state line and debated long and hard about buying Ky. tags and hunting there this year. Sunday hunting AND bow season comes in two full weeks sooner.

I've been in that fight (centerfire rifles) since I was old enought to vote and "actually" had a voice. The big excuse they put forth is that they are afraid some one will kill someones cows. If you can't tell the difference between a cow and a white tail deer, you got serious issues and problems. The other biggy is that rifles have such a long range. While that is true, there are very very few places in Halifax County where a bullet would be able to travel more than a few hundred yards before hitting trees or an embankment of some kind. Heck, I could stand 100 yards in the woods, put you 75 yards outside of the woods, let you shoot at me and the chances of you hitting me would be like 1 in 100000000000000000.

Yes, welcome to the Communistwealth of Virginia.

Seems like I've heard the main complaint is from non-hunting outdoor enthusists who feel like they need at least one day during the week when they can venture outdoors without fear of being shot at. At least that was what killed it in Maryland. Looks like West VA is going to loose thier recently won Sunday hunting privaliges.

If the DNR is really serious about controlling the deer population, Sunday hunting would esentially double the days we spend hunting deer and have a substantial increase in the money spent on this sport.

There's my .02.

I wish VA had Sunday hunting.... I grew up in upstate NY and you could hunt anyday you wanted.

The thing that irks me is thinking about the other guys who would like to hunt, but work as a mechanic 6 days a week with the only day off being Sunday. Think about it for a second.... That poor dude can't hunt! Well, not unless he wants to take a day off and go.

Has anyone ever tried to speak up in Virginia about Sunday hunting? Did it fall on deaf ears?

sprintflyer I doubt if you will see Sunday hunting in Va. in your lifetime. Va. was one of the last states to get rid of its BLUE laws. Remember this is the home of Jerry Falwell.
