I' ve heard that International Paper is selling off some of their timber tracts and alot of people are losing their leases in the Carolina / Georgia area. Anyone else running into this?[:' (]

Default RE: Tract Sales

IP has been selling land in various packages for the past couple of years and probably will continue to do so. Some of the land is being kept in timber production and leases continued, but some of the land has been divided and sold off and taken out of timber production and lost as hunting land. This trend is very alarming as some of the other large timber holdings are being sold as well. I think hunting land and timber land in the Carolinas will continue to shrink at a very fast rate.[] Large timber companies are being bought by larger timber companies, and they are selling land to raise capitol. Unfortunately these companies seem to have more bean counters whose main concern is the bottom line, than foresters and resource managers.[:@]
