I haven' t hunted it in 2 years now because I am on a club down below there.I have killed many deer on the refuge through the years with bow, muzzleloader and rifle.but the last couple of years I hunted there I didn' t see but 2 deer and that was in the muzzleloading season.
The best thing is to get a map all the stores used to sell them and scout,it is a big place with lots of little blocks to hunt on.The last time I hunted it there wasn' t as many people as there usually are.I try to avoid them and get off to my self but that is hard to do there.I killed the biggest and most deer along the river in the part that has the camp ground on highway 109.
If you check out the kill report in the hunting laws you can see how many was likked on game land and private land.
Good luck hope you get a big one.

Click I have a buddy who lives and hunts the area. Every year he seems to do very well. Last year he didn' t get to go but he said the deer were jumping all over the place. I will give him a call and ask him to post something for you. Good luck!

I just moved to the Charlotte area and have scouted much of the Acola, Angola, and Catawba game lands. I found a few good spots, but based on what I saw during turkey season, they are very popular. I plan to check out the Uwharrie GL this month.

Good Luck

I used to hike there when I lived in that area a few years back, I didn' t see many deer but I know they' re around. I just never found a good pocket I' d like to hunt. One good thing about it is it didn' t seem too crowded.

It' s very nice looking country if nothing else.
