Gentlemen, this week is going to be the start of something good. Especially on October 30th and 31st when the overnight temps are in the lower 30's, and it is sunny with a high pressure system moving in....bucks will be moving a bit, make that alot more! Best of luck guys...I bet some of you score big this week!

Bucks are scraping and rubbing like crazy, found 1 more scrape and 3 more rubs around the area I'm hunting.....I misseda big 8 pointer on saturday morning, but i'm not so sure he's the one rubbing on the trees i've been seeing. So we'll see what this week produces, I plan on being in the woods for a while friday morning.
Good luck to ya'll

I am still getting calls from co works that said Friday was crazy, buck where all over the place(nova) and I was down south king gorge area.I hope they are still moving around on Monday.
By the way the bucks where now to be found all of last week except for this Friday must have been the front coming Though.
Virginiashadow, I am hoping you are right so I am going to take Thursday and Friday off.

Virginiashadow,
I was always under the impression that bucks moved most when a low pressure system moved into an area. I read in an Alshimer book that his studies have revealed that at a barometer reading around 30 (sorry, forgot the units) will lead to deer movement being the highest.

Wahoo. I have not read anything from the experts in regards to this other than seeing and hearing things in the woods. That being said, there seem to be a few beautiful days in the woods around where I hunt. Those are the days where the barometer is on the rise (30 or above), coinciding with nice temperature drop, and finally finished off with a high pressure system (not really sure but everytime I feel no humidity in the air and it is really sunny I see alot of deer--then I have checked the weather channel and they call it a high pressure system). I am no expert but I predict Thursday and Friday.
Here is the weather channel link to the 10 day forecast. Notice how the winds come in on Tuesday and how by Thursday and Friday the winds and clouds clear out with sunny days....those are the days I look for in the fall. Again, I am wrong about a lot of things, and this may be one of them....in fact, I probably am
Good luck BUSHEY.

Also, today they show the barometer at 29.88 and on the rise....tomorrow the overnight lows will drop almost 15 degrees, hence why I think this week will start off the pre-rut.

Hey shadow,
I agree with you about the tail end of this week. I have read that deer activity always picks with any cold front but when it is a high pressured cold front then there is more activity than normal. Just my 2 cents worth. I cant hunt later in the week until Sat morning, but then will probably have a smokepole in my hand. Probably will go out in the morning before I go to work in the afternoon.

Also- I cannot stress enough that weather has absolutely no effect on the timing of the rut.

Like I said Rockin Chair, I have no scientific data to back up what I am saying...just the last 10 or so years I have hunted during this time frame (7 years prior were spent just gun hunting beginning in Mid November). The days I have described in my above posts have led me to see more bucks than normal on their feet during the day. I expect it to be the same when the wind dies down on Wednesday and the sun opens up on Thursday/Friday with cooler morning lows.
