Default Hunting in Mississippi

Any MS hunters out there?

I' m moving to MS at the end of this summer. Hows the hunting there? Anything that I should be aware of before moving? I went to MS' s DNR website and it wasn' t that informative.

Any good hog hunting? I' ll be moving just north of Meridian.

Most hog hunting is along the river around natchez. There' s awesome deer hunting in any direction you want to go. Great turkey hunting also as well as any small game you want. Doves are plentiful and ducks aren' t hard to find. All in all mississippi is the best hunting on the planet in my humble opinion. I live about 25 miles south of meridian.

So there are no hogs other than those around the river? That' s what I was mainly wanting to hunt. Meridian,MS is right on the same line as Talboton,Ga and we have a good many hogs in Talboton. I figured there would would be some around meridian?

There are a few (very few) hogs in some isolated spots around meridian, you' ll have to locate some private landowners who have a bunch of swamp/creekbottom land as that' s where they seem to hang out. In 25 years of hunting I' ve only seen two hogs around here so the odds aren' t that great. I had some root up some small pine trees on some of my land a few years back, but I never laid eyes on them. Some of the public land over near natchez and vicksburg has good hog populations. If I were strictly hunting for hogs I wouldn' t waste my time in the eastern part of the state, not much chance of seeing them.

What' s your e-mail address?

I' ll be moving to the Dekalb area just north of Meridian.

No weapons? Not even a knife? What are you suppose to do, talk them into giving up?
