hello fella's aint been here in awhile hope everyones had a good and safe season. I have talked to several of you before about this subject but need to recap. Another member of my hunting club and I are talking to international paper about a lease and starting a new hunting club,we are proposing to them the following.
qaulity herd management!
(this may mean taking only does for the first two seasons)
ethical conduct
(i.e. respect for the land and others)
while these may seem normal and obvious statements to most of us it is among their highest concerns. they have many leasees who donot practice what they preach, the members of my club are living proof.
heres what my friend and I are offering to others,a new kinda of hunting club, not one thats run by one or two guys, but run the way america is by vote and majority (i.e. managment concerns, hunting means and methods, work schedules and food plot planting,(lots of members on our lease dont mind killing a deer in your food plot but come time to plant and work around the lease their never there.)
I think basicly you guys get the idea by messages shared on these boards i have come to realize many of us have the same vision and thats what i want to see come together.
So heres the gig this may happen and it may not the waiting list is long but having a group lined up and an organized plan moves you ahead of the pack. my friend and i have put together some basic figures and we think would would be looking at 450 to 500 per family
if we have 20 people. family meaning your wife and kids. Basicly I am putting this out there to find out how many SERIOUSLY interested people I can find because if they call and say hey we have some property for you to view we have approx a week to make a decision and pay the lease. Once again they may call tommorrow or they may call 2 years from now. so dont anyone pass up an others great offers or opportunities. if your interested email me or post here i will answer all you responses and any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you guys and maybe even sharing a lease with you so keep your fingers crossed and good luck to all of you.

2Arrows, does IP still have land unleased?? I'm in Nacogdoches Co. and I know alot of guys who hunt their land. I was just suprised to hear that they had land going unleased? Pretty interesting for sure. Good luck to you, sounds like ya'll have a good plan. Most of those hunting clubs on paper company land are sad. They shoot everything that walks and can't even spell QDM. There is an IP lease about 3 miles down the road from me and I have an old high school buddy who's on it. They have less than 500 acres and there are 15 families hunting it! They shoot every single deer that walks. I know some people who hunt a 450 acre (privately owned land) lease next door to it. There is only 4 people hunting that place and they killed a 137 B&C last year and a 150 class B&C this year because of their QDM. Word of those deer got back to my buddy on the IP lease and he asked me about it. In a serious straight face he asked me "how do they see and kill those big bucks? We never see anything like that." I asked him if they ever pass on any deer and he said "no". I asked him how he thought those bucks could grow if they didn't let them walk. I got the typical response, "if we don't shoot them, someone else will". He still couldn't understand how those deer could be next door but not on their lease. I asked him if he had any idea what 15 families all on 4-wheelers in the woods on only 500 acres must sound like to the deer? He said he didn't think deer paid attention to that kind of thing!!!lol
Sorry to get waaaaay off topic but I do that sometimes. I'm glad to hear that ya'll have a good plan and aren't going to be the typical club I described above, good luck to you! Oh, if you end up with any land in Nacogdoches Co. let me know, I know of a couple guys who'd be interested in a club like you've desribed.

Tx cowboy, they dont have any open right now but they are taking applications,i have the feeling alot of clubs are about to get the boot for the reasons you described above, I.P. is a memeber of the Q.D.M.A it gets them a huge tax break, but they have to conform to the plan our club has been warned once already,It makes me sick evertime i go to my lease, we are in lufkin about a mile south of the river the motto around our lease seems to be if its brown its down.

Interesting info 2Arrows! I sure hope they start giving those kind of clubs the boot. Only problem is those guys will just go somewhere else and do the same thing. Actually, if they got kicked off they'd probably have a hard time finding anything else to lease. You know how hard that is around here. Those guys should just grow up and practice even mild QDM for a couple years and they'd be shocked at how their deer herd would get better. I'm fed up with people that don't give a crap about anything but filling their tags. I'll admit I'm a trophy hunter, no doubt. I want the big racks and I'm willing to go buckless to let the young one's grow. Heck I haven't shot a buck sind '98 because I just keep letting the young ones walk, wating on that big one. However, even if you claim to be a "meat hunter" you should still be willing to let the young bucks walk for pure management reasons. If all you want is meat, go shoot a doe! What people don't understand is how out of whack the buck/doe ratio is and how too bad it is for their to be so few mature animals in the herd.
It's just like catch and release fishing, it's a simple concept and it works!
Ok I'll get off my soap box. Good luck with IP and your future hunting club!
