Today was opening day in VA and it started off with a light drizzle and turned into more rain after a short while. Before the rain picked up I had set up my ground blind and decoys on a powerline clearing and started calling. I recieved a few gobbles that seemed to be far off and on higher ground. I kept the calling up and then the rain started to pick up even more and no more gobbles were heard. I guess the birds decided not to get soaked and sought some cover. Anyway, I gave it some more time and the rain didn't look like it was gonna let up so I packed up and headed for home. Wouldn't you know it, the rain had let up when I got home, which was 25 miles away. It seems the weather people had forecasted rain all day today and by 9 AM it was done for the day, what a dissappointment. Either way it was worth it just to hear some gobbles in reply to my calls
. Monday calls for some better weather, sunny and in the 60's, so I'll go back and give it a try then. This is my 1st spring gobbler season in VA and I'd like to start it off with some success in the first few days. I heard 2 shots probably within a 1 1/2 miles of my location. How did you do in VA today?

I got really lucky, I figured when I woke up it would be an uneventful day but had tagged out at 8:00 when it was raining the hardest. This gobbler is 20lbs, 10" beard, and 1 1/4 spurs. My first gobbler!

Had to work saturday, but I'm off on mondays. Got lucky and nailed one little after 7am. 20+lb, Double beard 10.5 & 4, & 1.25 spurs. Had two or more birds still calling after I shot.

I went out opening morning and had a few answer our calls, however, never did see them. It drizzled a little, however, never rained on us. It was a beautiful morning! Gonna try again this Saturday.
