what is the difference?

RE: what is the difference?
Actually, gophers are a lot different than prairie dogs. Gophers are smaller, darker in color, solitary, with small hairless legs, and have short hairless tails much like a rat's. They are nocturnal in nature, and generally don't venture outside of their burrows. Prairie dogs on the other hand, are communal as opposed to solitary, living in symbiotic groups as large as 100, and prefer daylight hours. They are more squat and have a slight banding. So overall, prairie dogs are essentially overgrown short-tailed ground squirrels, and gophers are hotdog shaped long-tailed hamsters, lol. Hope that helps.
If not this should do the trick:

RE: what is the difference?
Here in Kansas, we have large populations of them, but they're so far away (6+ hrs drive) that I have never been. Also, as far as I know, there aren't any gophers in Kansas, though I hope I'm mistaken.

SifuSkyler, you again have made the same mistake. Thats is a mole not a gopher.

And sorry, but this pic is not of a gopher, it is a ground squirrel of the genus Citellus. I would say an arctic ground squirrel.
Oh, and your "prairie dogs" are in fact ground squirrels too, belonging to the genus Cynomys.
