.243 & .270 IMO fit the bill best, using factory ammunition anyway.

I use both the 25-06 and a .243. Of the two the 25-06 is far and away my favorite for both coyote and deer. My 25-06 kills deer quicker then any gun I ever owned. I reload with Barnes100 TSX bullets and push them to the max (3450fps). The all copper bullet doesn't tear them up to bad either. Here is a picture of an exit hole on a coyote.

Is the 25-06 a weird caliber? I looked in gander mtn. tonight and in the bass pro magazine and i didn't see any cartridges. Where do I find them? is there another way to write the cartridge size?

I'd suggest the 243. It will hammer both dogs and coyotes with the best of 'em!

No the 25-06 is not a weird caliber. I was a 243 guy for years until I tried the 25-06. Wow...what a difference. I own a Remington 700 DM that I bought a McMillian stock for.

I was telling my neighbor that I killed 5 deer now with the 25-06 and everyone has been a bang-flop. He was in need of a rifle this season in Wisconsin so I lent him my rifle. Two deer...two bang flops. I shot many deer with the 35 Whelen and the 30-06 and neither one dropped them as fast as the 25.

I suspect it has to do with the velocity of the 100 grain bullet (3450 fps) and the all copper bullet....alway two holes. As you can see from the coyote picture I posted earlier it doesn't make that big a hole on a coyote. Tika also makes a wonderful little 25-06.
