Default Yote smells!

A yote that I shots smelled terrible!! Do they always smell that bad? It was a head shot so it wasn' t the guts. There is no way anyone would want to skin that thing. Is this the norm for them or do some have less of a stench? It was a male if that matters.

Coyotes don' t smell great that is a fact.
If they are wet they smell worse.
It may be that your particular coyote may have rolled in something particularly nasty prior to you shooting it.
Before I skin coyotes I put them in a bag with some good flea powder and then take them over to the car wash late at night (when nobody else is around) and give them a good wash.

The perfume they wear isn' t the best, that' s for sure, but one of the coyotes I got this year smelled way worse than any I can ever remember. It was a female, and I made a head shot on it. None of them smell like roses, but seems that some of them simply smell worse than others. I have shot several back home in Ks. that had severe case of mange, and they smell like death warmed over. I wonder if thier health condition has any thing to do with it. Come to think about it, the female that I got this year that smelled bad, was pretty skinny.

i think the average coyote won' t smell pretty but dosn' t smell foul.it could be poor health that couses it or it could be just like some domestic dogs that every time they run free they find somthing dead and roll in it.

Mix up 1 quart 3% peroxide,1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tsp liquid dish soap and spray on the stinker, take that odor right out!

I think all coyotes smell bad. Its that wet dog kinda smell. Every coyote I' ve caught had the smell. It doesn' t wash out in soap and water either. Just something a yote has I guess. I just skin them quick and put em in the freezer, that tends to destroy most of the scent.

Try the concoction I mentioned, you' ll be pleasantly surprised. I use it to deodorize skunk spray,It really works. Don' t shake it though, really foams up. I spray it under houses after skunks let loose and the odor disappears. Try a net search on skunk odor removal.

You can mix about 25% vinegar to 75% water. This will help to get the smell out and the hide won' t smell like vinegar. This is a remedy for dogs that hunt waterfoul. If the hide is continually, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and that is where the smell is comming from.
