You don't have to convert it, if you use mp3 files.
You can download a bunch here:

http://www.varmintal.com/ahunt.htm

I use this speaker from Cabela's with my iPod. It works great. It has a real long cord so you can set it up away from you near a decoy. I made a few playlists with these sounds and can just let it play.

If you want to get fancy and go with a wireless setup checkout the predator masters forums. They have some DIY wireless setups.

Does your I-pod have power to drive a speaker loud enough?

I bought the Cass Creek Bighorn speaker from Cabela's. It takes "C" batteries so it provides its own power. It's plenty loud and has about 70' of cable.

I went to varmint al's page and downloaded the calls from there into my iTunes then onto my iPod. I did this to listen to the calls and practice them. I then thought about the same thing your looking to do! I will be making something for this fall using some sort of self powered speakers/loudspeaker that run on batteries!

Here'ssomepages on building a homeade caller. I was going to build one. I'm an electrician by trade, but the one I bought from Cabela's works great. I would like to build a wireless one someday. VarmintAl has some instructions on his page too.
