Default 7.62X39 for yotes???

I have an sks with a tactical stock and I want to use it to hunt coyotes. It's overkill I know but I don't feel like droppin another 800 on a swift or 204. Has anyone else used a 7.62 for yotes????

I don"t think it"s overkill at all, alot of guys use somthing in that range for dogs. It should work fine,as long as you can be accurate with it. I use a 204 rugar, and have good luck with it,but the 7.62 will do a fine job.

The sks will work just fine for coyotes. Use FMJ and you will not damage the hide as much as hollow points or softpoints, should just poke a nice clean hole. Accuracy past about 150 yards may be an issue, though I have a Yugo sks that shoots way better than it should out to 400+ yards. With iron sights your front post starts getting bigger than your target out a couple hundred yards or so. If you can get ahold of a range finder play with the sight adjustments and your hunting loads, and mark with some finger nail polish to find your 100 yard increment zero's. I would stick with the iron sights, most of the scopes and mounts for the sks are junk and do not hold a very good zero.

Yea I've noticed the scope mounts aren't that great, I had it drivin nails until the scope moved. my dad just bought a smith and wesson m&p ar15, that would work ok, lol.
