Default Summer rabbit hunting

I was planning on hunting rabbits in the off seasons, but i dont know if they will be as active in the summer, as they are in the winter. I killed a few during the winter, but never during summer. so if there is any advice, im listening.

Not a good idea to hunt and eat them during hot weather even if it is legal.

Just pulled up the reg's for Al. you don't have a summer rabbit season.According to their website your rabbit season runs from Oct 1-Feb 29.so,if your are going to do any rabbit hunt best get it done now.

Cottontials start reproducing in early spring and go through Sept. I run my dogs a lot in the offseason, but try to stay closer w/ them when they jump b/c I don't want them tearing a nest up. I had them get 2 last year and between those2 nests, you figure there went 10 baby rabbits

I've always heard old timers talk of rabbit poisoning if you eat them before cold weather. You can always shoot grounhogs in the summer if it's legal there. In KY frog season starts in MAY here you can take them with a gun, gig, fishing pole or hand. You might check your state game laws you can probably shoot starlings or some other birds.Rabbits need time for birthing and taking care of their young,I wont kill a groundhog til I see it,s young out of the den eating grass then you got big targets and little targets, but I wouldn't want those little ones to starve to death without mom.I'm sure that you can find some other nuisance animal to shoot at if you look at the game regulations(try your neighbors cat that keeps getting on top of your new truck that will get you some friends)sorry thinking out loud.happy hunting whatever you hunt.PS if you ever eat froglegs you might start hunting them alot.
