Default Got skunked over the weekend.....

Me and a buddy went out saturday and tried 5 different settings of calling and got skunked. Neither one of us have any mouth calls we just used his fx5. This was basically our first time calling for either one of us. We tried to do what they say in the videos....sun at your back, windage, call in the wind, etc... but nothing. any little hints to help us keep our heads up?? 0 for 5 isnt that good??
thanks in advance!

I don't know what the weather was like in your area, but here it was snow on the ground and cold. With the full moon I think it was a great time for coyotes to fill their bellys during the night so they weren't up to chasing noises during the day. Thanksgiving morning and Saturday morning, I went 0-10+ sets and only seen a few while driving around. All too far to get a shot at. What another weekend or two and I bet that it will pick up again.

Weather was probably too nice...had about 2 inches of fresh snow, 40 degrees, slightly overcast and no wind. Thats about the only thing we could think also is that they had a feast on turkey day also

I got skunked on 4 stands Sun. Don't get discouraged yet, predator calling is never 100%. I find the best time to be after a dark cold night. If the morning after is slightly overcast with about a 5 mph wind. It never hurts to do some day time scouting just to make sure there are coyotes where you are trying to call them. Be cautious if you do scout, don't go spreading your scent all over the place. Try to find areas with a lot of scat, tracks in softer dirt, and I also look for places with a high concentration of rodent holes.
