I new you'd be a force to watch Rammer!I'll get it added. BUT while I'm here, I was out today shooting some test loads through my latest toy, and decided to do a stand while I was out. I used 40 gr. berger out of the .204 D-Tech and the shot was about 40 yards.

I thought about picking up a 204 and trying it out..
Just curious on the pro and cons on it..
How many shots thru the barrel before it gets worn out from the speeds of the cartidge.. It's a bet faster than the 22-250 and also curious about your opinion on it compared to a 22-250 if you ever compared them in the field.
I would rather have the opinion of someone who doesn't get paid to write articles if you know where I am coming from..

I sent ya a PM, but if I only use this rifle for calling coyotes, the rifle/barrel will out last me.

I honestly would not worry a bit about the 204 being a barrel burner like the 22-250. even though the 204 is pushing higher velocities, velocity really doesnt have asmuch to do with burning up a barrel as does chamber pressures and throat errosion. the 204 runs at or slightly above 223 chamber pressure and the average chamber pressure of a 22-250 is a good 5,000 psi higher. asfar as barrel life is concerned the 204 should be compared to a .223 rather than a 22-250.

im shooting a 308 savage 12 vfss.
my last suggestion was intended with the idea of using small cals like a 204 or 223. In your case with a 308 and maintaining minimal pelt damage I suggest going the opposite direction and using a full weight FMJ if legal in your state, if not? Id go with a sturdy soft point like core lokts or interlocks or even a bonded core like a TB bear claw or nosler partition. with a cal like the 308 you want minimal expansion of the projectile and have a clean pass through. also stick to bullets in the 150 to 180 grain class so you dont lose trajectory from low ballistic coefficients like you would find from 125 grain and lighter bullets the lighter bullets in a 308 really kill your effective range and trajectory.

Back when I first got into yote hunting I too used a 308 it was my only scoped gun at the time and i found that 110 grain 30 cal V-max bullets are just murder on a yote even though they are great in light cals they are still just to much in a 30 cal they'll fragment on impact and the KE wont dispurse fast enough and the exit wound will look like a 12 ga blast coming from the inside out. good luck
