What size scope for a .243?
#1
Thinking of getting a .243 barrel for my TC Prohunter and am wondering what size scope to get. I'll be setting it up for yote hunting and bench shooting to 200 yards. Is 50mm needed for night yote hunting? I'm thinking 4.5-14 should be more than enough. Is 6-18 too much?

How big of lens you want becomes an issue of how much weight and how much money your willing to deal with. I do know you'll be better off to spend extra money on quality lenses...not just bigger lenses. 50mm is not NEEDED for night hunting (but you may look at a lighted reticle or bushnells "firefly" series)
X14.5 is WAAY enough for 200yard yotes (don't worry I won't say its overkill though)

Thanks for the responses guys. I def. don't want a 50mm as it mounts too high the 4.5-14 is a 44mm. I might even just slap my VXII 3X9-40mm on there that I have sitting in the safe.

A 4.5-14 would be a good choice. Even a 4-12 would be okay too. I have a 6.5-20x on a .223 Savage. Not because I'm shooting a mile but because it's a lot easier to shoot those 1/2" groups at 100 with the high magnification. Sometimes it is a little much when in the field (gun and scope...that sucker is heavy!). So I would say 4.5-14x would be all you would need.
