A couple years bck we started seeing coons staggering round in daylight and a lot dead and dying. turns out they are very susceptible to feline distemper and they were dying of it. Too bad it didn't kill all of them. Around here they really take a toll on game birds and their eggs

although coon mainly roam at night, its not completely uncommon to see one in the middle of the day.and when you do it dosen't mean its sick and dying.if they are sick they will most times show some kind of sign that somthing isn't right, staggering, falling over or just a pure lack of fear towards humans.if the coon your seeing is showing any sign of sickness, kill it(if you can)bag it and toss it in a dumpster.do not handle it with your bare hands and do not leave it lay for other wild and domestic animals to feed on.if it is sick its either rabbies or distemper, distemper being more common in coon.but rabbies is a major killer in coon to.rabbies is highly contagous to all who come in contact with the animal, this includes humans,so be carefull.

no fear towards humans is one symptom of the later stages of rabbies.if your not sure stay clear of the animal and have someone that knows take a look.

Might be distemper also and with that they get a wet belly. Anyway you need to get rid of them and keep other animals away.
