i am just starting to trap beaver for the first time. it seems to be fun. i bought a #330 and two #220 conibear traps. i spaypainted them with a anti-rust spray ( some one who has been trapping for years told me to do this) i am expirmenting with drowning rigs. i am using cinderblocks as a trap stake. i figure a beaver can drag it but only so far with the 330 on its body. i am not using bait. whatm should i use for bait?? i am located in southeast north carolina.

Man! ya gotta get the basics down first.Buy a subscription to Fur Fish and Game. And a couple of cheep trapping books. That will give you the foundation.Build on that.Stop oiling your traps!you want rust. And STAKE 220-330s down tight cause they dont always kill instantly.Stay with it and in a few years youll be good.

I don't set the conibears on drowning rigs, only foot traps. Stake them securely and that will be good. If you painted them, before you set them rub all of the paint off of the trigger and also the trap where the trigger catches. If you don't take a friend when setting so he can take that big thing off of your hand!!
You really should look into the beaver trapping books written by Charles Dobbins. Pictures are great and very informative.
