New comparison 6mm vs. .25-06 for deer & coyotes
In my recent thread comparing the .243 to the .25-06 it was the general consensus that the .25-06 would be the rifle of choice. I do say that I agreed with that choice.
But.....What if I changed the comparison to the 6mm instead of the .243?
The 6mm has a little more "pop" than the .243. After studying my reloading data, then using some ballistic software to plot bullet trajectory the 6mm even inches out the .25-06 in trajectory and energy when you approach the 200 yd mark.
The negative aspect of the 6mm is that I would not have the 120gr. bullet to choose from as I would with the .25-06 and my choice of firearm manufactures would be smaller. As of right now I have only found Remington and Ruger to chamber this round.
My gut feeling is that the .25-06 should remain my decided choice but I thought I should ask as you guys may have further info to add.
The hunting situation is the same as in my previous comparison:
I do all of my hunting in Missouri. The only game that this gun will see is deer and coyotes. More deer than coyotes. I am joining a hunting club whose property mainly consists of several small patches of woods ranging from 20-75 acres with remainder in large agricultural fields. 200yd - 300yd. would be the max range.
Thanks again for your help,
Toby

Stick with the 25-06 its a more common round to buy ammo for . Where did you find the figures on energy and trajectory .I have Sierra and Hornady .
